We are currently seeking a Railway labourer, a team player who is committed to safety, positivity, and a strong work ethic, as we strive to set the standard of excellence everyday, to our clients.  This position will be primarily based out of our Kamloops location, however travel throughout British Columbia, such as to Prince George, will be required.

This position is physically demanding, and requires working in all seasons.  Along with the crew, your day will consist of building and maintaining track, and can include duties of replacing and repairing track components such as rails, railway ties, and fences, as well as responding to track outages, making alignment adjustments, and other related maintenance.

Required:

  • Valid drivers license and reasonably clean driving abstract, with Class 1A preferred.
  • Able to produce a driver’s abstract and insurance claims history
  • Previous hand tools and equipment operating experience, would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift heavy tools and equipment
  • Ability to travel out of town during the week or on weekends when required
  • Construction experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Criminal record check
  • Successfully pass required railway operating rules examinations
  • Successfully pass eRailSafe Canada workforce compliance system
  • Unionized position

We are currently seeking a Project Coordinator, a team player who is committed to accountability, safety, and a strong work ethic, as we strive to set the standard of excellence every day.  This position will be primarily based out of our Kamloops location, however travel throughout British Columbia, such as to Prince George, will be required.

The Project Coordinator will provide many levels of operations support, to the General Manager.   Through effective communication skills and attention to detail and deadlines, meeting the expectations of our customers, on time, and on budget, is vital.

As the key contact between HPL and the customer, the Project Coordinator will possess excellent organizational skills such as evaluating project scopes, completing accurate and timely estimates, as well as scheduling and organizing crews and material, as well as providing clear and concise reports.

Additional responsibilities include attending project start-up meetings, providing input and assistance to the tender preparation, ensuring accuracy prior to the tender submission, gathering and reporting project financials, invoicing, estimates, construction schedules, project executions, and close outs.

Skills & Experience

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, or working towards this designation, would be an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a project management support role is preferred.
  • Previous experience participating in the bid process, and using bid-software, is an asset
  • Previous customer relations experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office suite and Excel is required, scheduling and project management software, is an asset.
  • Previous power line/electrical experience is an asset.
  • Industry knowledge such as understanding single lines and terminology, is required.
  • 3 to 5 years construction project management experience, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in estimate preparation, forecasting, pricing, profit and loss responsibility, scheduling, and quality management.
  • Strong communication (verbal & written), leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to interpret and effectively manage competing priorities and timelines.
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management methods.
  • Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Other industry related certifications are considered assets.

Additional Work requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and fairly clean drivers abstract.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must have clean criminal record to access Canada’s rail lines.
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Travel to construction site locations will be required.
