Hundseth Power Line Construction (HPL) is a proud Saskatchewan-based company with a legacy spanning more than 50 years of powering communities, industries, and economies across Western Canada. Built on a foundation of hard work, prairie values, resilience, and trusted relationships, HPL has grown into one of the region’s leading utility contractors specializing in transmission, distribution, underground utility, telecommunications, and specialized equipment services.
For five decades, we have been committed to building and maintaining the critical infrastructure that keeps communities connected and supports growth throughout the prairie landscape. Today, HPL employs skilled professionals, including Power Line Technicians, Telecommunications Technicians, Equipment Operators, Mechanics, Safety and Training Professionals, Project Managers, and support staff who bring expertise, dedication, and pride to every project.

1976
Founded on Vision
Hundseth Power Line Construction (HPL) traces its roots back to 1976 when C.L. Hundseth founded Hundseth Line Construction Corp. Drawing on years of industry experience and a vision for serving Saskatchewan’s growing electrical infrastructure needs, he established a company built on hard work, safety, and customer service.
1980
Growth and Expansion
In 1980, Todd Hundseth joined the business and helped expand its capabilities and reach throughout Saskatchewan. Through strategic growth and the acquisition of Thomson-Jonsson Trenching Ltd., the company strengthened its expertise in both overhead and underground utility construction and maintenance.
1988
Major Client Expansion
In 1988, with a customer base which included SaskPower, Cameco, Husky Oil and Co-op, a major expansion took place and introduced new clients including: Cogema, Inco, Weyerhaeuser, ICG, TCPL, City of Saskatoon, SaskTel, Shaw Cable, Access Cable, the University of Saskatchewan, as well as many other customers.
2011
Acquisition of Thompson-Jonsson Trenching Ltd
Further expansion came in 2011 with the acquisition of Thompson-Jonsson Trenching Ltd to create Hundseth Power Line Construction as it exists today. With more than a century of combined power line construction experience in Saskatchewan, the company takes pride in delivering the highest quality projects on time and in the safest manner to our customers.
Having previously held numerous regional maintenance and construction area spread contracts, HPL currently holds the SaskPower Region Powerline Contracts in the Saskatoon, Regina, and Regina Rural areas. With facilities in Saskatoon (home office), Regina and Humboldt, HPL offers an operating and support of staff of over 200 employees including Powerline Technicians, telecommunication technicians, safety & training, mechanics, mobile mechanics and welders along with equipment sufficient to support all operations. Distribution construction & maintenance powerline crews have extensive experience in 5kV, 14.4kV, and 25kV systems, both overhead and underground.
2015 - 2018
Manitoba Hydro Contract Completed
HPL completed the Overhead Distribution Maintenance & Construction Services Contract (2015-2018) for Manitoba Hydro. We continue our support in Manitoba by providing services under our current Distribution Construction Framework Contract for Manitoba Hydro.

Headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, HPL maintains strategic operations throughout the province, including facilities in Regina and Humboldt. These locations support our ability to efficiently serve customers across Saskatchewan while providing centralized leadership, project management, fleet support, safety services, and administration.Our expertise has earned us major utility contracts across the province, including multiple SaskPower Regional Powerline Contracts, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted partner in utility construction and maintenance.
In addition to our Saskatchewan operations, HPL provides support and leadership to affiliated companies across Western Canada, extending our reach and capabilities while maintaining the same commitment to safety, quality, and service excellence.

The Advisory Board provides independent insight, strategic guidance, and valuable perspectives that support HPL’s Executive Leadership Team as we continue to grow and evolve. Their collective expertise helps strengthen our decision-making, enhance our governance practices, and position the company for sustainable success in a rapidly changing industry.
Our Advisory Board members consists of Brad Wall, former Premier of Saskatchewan; Mike Marsh, former President and CEO of SaskPower; and Neil Weber, Partner of Virtus Group LLP. Together, they bring decades of leadership experience across sectors including business, finance, government, energy, and corporate governance. Their knowledge and guidance support HPL’s commitment to operational excellence, innovation, safety, quality, and long-term value creation for our employees, customers, and communities.
